Salina

Its my very first time to Salina
whats salina???
haha
its not a Hotel or Club or some luxury villa
its just a stall nearby the roadside

My friends being going there since semester one,
but because i was so conscious about my diet plan
i did not join them till today

I always hear my friends mentioned about Salina
and seems like everybody in the institute goes there for dinner
most of the time
they said the food is good and their famous for their chicken rice

Finally
i decided to go there and try it myself.
i ordered Kampung style Chicken Fried Rice..
while waiting for the food.the environment there begins to set my first impression on that stall
It looks like an ordinary stall in Kuantan
and i notice that, yes actually most my friends go there for dinner
and today it looks like a big crowd cause there was this soccer match between Malaysia and Singapore on TV..( so u know-lah ,the malaysian culture that is to hangout at any food outlet like a mass)
and the most irritating part is that ,
The two people who once made my life miserable was there too..sitting opposite and beside our table!!
but i just couldn't be bothered and hang out with my friends.

I just had a good time there
The food was quite good
and the best part is that
i get to hear You-Know-Who's fun-fact after a long time + eventhough I'm totally broke
but i still went for dinner outside
i thought i could put a thick face on to pay the food using my saving coins.
but Ain was so considerate to help me pay the food by using her money and she took all the coins.
At that moment i thought to myself that she is being so kind to me always that i couldn't think how I'm going to repay her good deeds.

on our way back to the room we sopped at the shack hanging out for a while before we get back to our rooms

Horrible + Terrible Weekend

Its was a bored and bad weekend for me
It was a weekend specially meant for me  to get bullied by some bullies
and a weekend meant for me to sleep for more than 12 hours...

I just couldn't imagine how actually i spent my weekends in Batu Pahat  during my first semester
Its just so pathetic, that i can't stand staying in my room.
It is extremely boring  that the only thing i could do is sleep..sleep and sleep!!!
To add on with no allowances left and no pocket money left ...All i could do is stop thinking of going out to either one of the malls here

The only entertainment is my laptop..
but the sad part is my dad haven't paid the broadband bill,so the usage is limited and fucking slow.
Therefore i can't really go online and i got to used the institute wireless ,whereby i could only Facebook-ing cause Malaysian Government is being so "Kind" that they blocked other entertainment and social networking websites including Youtube.
Thank god,i've been watching 49 Days,so i don't really feel lost in the world of boredom

and about the bully part..

Its actually not bully but HARASSMENT
I WAS ACTUALLY SEXUALLY ABUSED AND PHYSICALLY ABUSED ON FRIDAY AND TODAY!!!

One idiotic boyfriend of my friend is so ignorant by showing me his private part.i would define that people as benighted uneducated asshole..His coarse and crass behaviour actually proof that the brain is somewhere else.

and

The other incident is that i was physically abused today while i was bathing by some human apes.i just don't like people disturbing me when I'm bathing,it feels like my privacy is being invaded by some intruders.i just hate this kind of peoples.
Where the hell on earth, they left their brains !!

Its just pathetic again thinking about this unwanted ignorant incidents...

Facts For Father's Day

"It is a wise father that knows his own child." -- William Shakespeare

FATHERS' DAY HISTORY

Sonora Dodd, of Washington, first had the idea of a "father's day." She thought of the idea for Father's Day while listening to a Mother's Day sermon in 1909.

Sonora wanted a special day to honor her father, William Smart. Smart, who was a Civil War veteran, was widowed when his wife died while giving birth to their sixth child. Mr. Smart was left to raise the newborn and his other five children by himself on a rural farm in eastern Washington state.

After Sonora became an adult she realized the selflessness her father had shown in raising his children as a single parent. It was her father that made all the parental sacrifices and was, in the eyes of his daughter, a courageous, selfless, and loving man. Sonora's father was born in June, so she chose to hold the first Father's Day celebration in Spokane, Washington on the 19th of June, 1910.

President Calvin Coolidge, in 1924, supported the idea of a national Father's Day. Then in 1966 President Lyndon Johnson signed a presidential proclamation declaring the 3rd Sunday of June as Father's Day. President Richard Nixon signed the law which finally made it permanent in 1972.

"None of you can ever be proud enough of being the child of SUCH a Father who has not his equal in this world-so great, so good, so faultless. Try, all of you, to follow in his footsteps and don't be discouraged, for to be really in everything like him none of you, I am sure, will ever be. Try, therefore, to be like him in some points, and you will have acquired a great deal." -- Victoria, Queen of England

Facts:

The Philippines

In the Philippines, Father's Day is not an official holiday, but is widely observed on the 3rd Sunday of June. Most Filipinos born in the 1960s and 1970s did not celebrate Father's day but due to being under the influence of the United States as seen on television, the Filipinos most likely follow this tradition and other American holidays. The advent of the internet also helps in promoting this holiday to the Filipinos.

Thailand

Father's Day is set as the birthday of the king. December 5 is the birthday of the current king, Bhumibol Adulyadej (Rama IX). Traditionally, Thais celebrate by giving their father or grandfather a Canna flower (ดอกพุทธรักษา Dok Buddha Ruksa), which is considered a masculine flower; however, this is not as commonly practiced today. Thai people will wear yellow on this day to show respect for the king, because yellow is the Color of the day for Monday, the day king Bhumibol Adulyadej was born. In 2007, king Bhumibol Adulyadej was seen leaving the hospital wearing a baby pink blazer. Today, Thais wear pink instead of the yellow.
It first gained nationwide popularity in the 1980s as part of a campaign by Prime Minister Prem Tinsulanonda to promote Thailand's royal family. Mother's Day is celebrated on the birthday of Queen Sirikit, August 12.

FOREST FACTS

Forest Facts

Saving forests requires a change in lifestyle

If you ever wondered how it would be possible for you to save an entire forest then look no further than making simple lifestyle changes. Forests play multiple roles in our lives, including providing a source of livelihood, refuge for many species, and clean air for all.
As a result of the growing global pollution levels forests have often come to be referred to as the ‘lungs of the earth’. This is particularly because deforestation and forest degradation account for nearly 20% of global greenhouse gas emissions, which forests would absorb if carefully managed.
Broadly, there are three main sources of forest degradation: commercial logging, fires, and gathering wood for fuel. Insects and pests also cause considerable forest degradation.

Difference between deforestation and degradation

Deforestation is the reduction of forest cover, notably viewed by the loss of trees. Commercial logging and fires are examples of causes of deforestation. It is however possible to use forests in a properly managed way that maintains their existence. There is therefore no deforestation if there is a guarantee of continuity in maintaining the forest cover.
Degradation refers to the loss of quality of the forests, rather than coverage. The quality of a forest can be observed through monitoring the survival rates of its ecosystem, for example vegetation layers, soil, flora and fauna. Some of the causes of forest degradation are the gathering of wood for fuel, and insects and pests.

Benefits of forests

As a resource, forests provide many important natural resources, such as timber, fuel, rubber, paper and medicinal plants. Forests also help sustain the quality and availability of freshwater supplies. More than three quarters of the world’s accessible freshwater comes from forested catchments. Water quality declines with decreases in forest condition and cover, and natural hazards such as floods, landslides, and soil erosion have larger impacts
Climate change Mitigation
It’s well known that forests play a key role in our battle against climate change; storing carbon and sucking in carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and locking it into their biomass.

Products / Benefits (water)
But what’s less well known is that the products and services they provide are essential to every aspect of life. By regulating water for many of the world’s rivers, they help secure water quality, and supply nearly half of the world’s largest cities from Caracas to New York.   They also help decrease the impacts of storms and floods, whilst helping control erosion.

Biodiversity
As the most biologically diverse ecosystems on land, forests are home to more than half of terrestrial species, from the great apes to the smallest of creatures.

Economics and Livelihoods
They also provide homes, security and livelihoods for 60 million Indigenous peoples, whilst contributing to the livelihoods of 1.6 billion people worldwide.

Products & Biodiversity
The impact of forests reaches even further. In many developing countries more than 80% of total energy consumed by people and industry derives from forests. Such as fuel wood and charcoal. Trade in timber and other forest products, is estimated at almost 330 billion US Dollars /year. Its value multiplies as its processed into a myriad of products used globally every day. Use of the genetic diversity within forests enables the development of new medicines; progress in healthcare and science.

The numbers

Forests cover 31% of total land area while at the same time supporting 80% of terrestrial biodiversity that live in them. Many of the world’s most threatened and endangered animals live in these forests, making them crucial to sustaining ecosystems. Not only animals live in the forests, as they also provide a home to more than 300 million people worldwide.

World Environment Day and forests

Beyond supporting the natural habitat, forests sustain economic growth. In 2004 trade in forest products was estimated at $327 billion. Continued and uncontrolled deforestation therefore not only has devastating consequences for the environment, the wildlife and communities, but for economies around the world.
Rather shockingly, 36 million acres of natural forest are lost each year. World Environment Day (WED) chose this year’s theme, ‘Forests: Nature at Your Service’, to encourage forest conservation and sustainable consumption for green growth, and in support of the UN International Year of Forests initiative. Preserving forests throughout the world has to be in our collective consciousness so as to change our lifestyles.

What are we doing?

In September 2008, United Nations launched a collaborative initiative on Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and forest Degradation (REDD) in developing countries.
The UN-REDD Programme assists developing countries prepare and implement national REDD+ strategies, and builds on the convening power and expertise of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP).
The Programme currently has 29 partner countries spanning Africa, Asia-Pacific and Latin America. REDD+ is seen as one of the most cost-effective ways of stabilizing the atmospheric concentration of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions to avoid a temperature rise of two degrees Celsius.
But standing forests also conserve carbon while supporting the livelihoods of a large number of Indigenous Peoples and forest-dependent communities as well providing essential ecosystem services such as habitat for biodiversity and provisioning clean water supplies.

What can you do?

A quick and easy way to get involved is to make others aware of the forests issues by sharing this website, organizing an event, or participating in this years WED celebrations.
Governments should develop and implement policies that encourage sustainable use of forests. They should consider cordoning off areas inhabited by endangered species and promote forest restoration where they have been depleted.
Private companies have an opportunity to invest wisely into the new Green Economy whilst developing a socially responsible status with its consumers. They can develop procurement processes that buy only into sustainably managed forests, such as products certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC). Be the first in your organization to shift your company policies towards green growth!
Civil society can play a significant role by independently monitoring all parties involved, raising awareness on forests and supporting grassroots initiatives.
Like private companies, individuals can make wise premeditated choices over what products they will buy and only purchasing forest products that originate from sustainable sources. This means checking that furniture, wood, paper and other products you buy are verified as coming from legal sources. A quick and easy way to do this is checking for an FSC certification logo.
Most importantly, taking action on forests requires an ongoing commitment to changing lifestyle and therefore is not a one-off action. Your new lifestyle demands that you are forest-conscious in all your choices, consumption and actions.

World Environment Day 2011

5th May 2011
World Environment Day

About WED

World Environment Day (WED) is an annual event that is aimed at being the biggest and most widely celebrated global day for positive environmental action. WED activities take place all year round but climax on 5 June every year, involving everyone from everywhere.
WED celebration began in 1972 and has grown to become the one of the main vehicles through which the UN stimulates worldwide awareness of the environment and encourages political attention and action.
Through WED, the UN Environment Programme is able to personalize environmental issues and enable everyone to realize not only their responsibility, but also their power to become agents for change in support of sustainable and equitable development.
WED is also a day for people from all walks of life to come together to ensure a cleaner, greener and brighter outlook for themselves and future generations.
Everyone counts in this initiative and WED relies on you to make this happen! We call for action – organize a neighborhood clean-up, stop using plastic bags and get your community to do the same, plant a tree or better yet organize a collective tree planting effort, walk to work, start a recycling drive . . . the possibilities are endless.
.
"One man's thrash, another man's treasure"

In conjuction with  WED the Sri Sathya Sai Baba Centre of Kuantan Conducted a community service activity called CCC ( Community Cleaning Club)  at the most dirtiest spot in Kuantan which was Taman Gelora. The Youths and the folks of the centre gathered at the car park nearby around and at 8 am the Town Municipal Council brought their equipments for us to do our activity. They Borrowed us wheelbarrows, brooms and gave us big garbage bags. After that we devided into several groups and we start walking around the beachside collecting all kinds of rubbish like carpets, bottles, condom packs, plastic bags and polystyrene and etc. Once the garbage bag was full, we left it there and continue to collect rubbish with another bag.At about 10 am we took the wheelbarrows and went to collect all the full garbage bags that was left around. We couldn't go on as there were no boundaries  for this rubbish....there was no end so we decided to stop at 10 am. Then all the garbage bags was gathered at one place , so that the municipal council can dispose them. We magane to collect the rubbish up to 30 garbage bags. This CCC program was also held throughout the nation at the same time conducted by the Sri Sathya Sai Baba Organisation of Malaysia. This program was just to show our love for Mother Earth by taking care of her .
WE SHOULD START GOING GREEN !!!LET'S SAVE OUR PLANET!!!
