World Environment Day 2011

5th May 2011
World Environment Day

About WED

World Environment Day (WED) is an annual event that is aimed at being the biggest and most widely celebrated global day for positive environmental action. WED activities take place all year round but climax on 5 June every year, involving everyone from everywhere.
WED celebration began in 1972 and has grown to become the one of the main vehicles through which the UN stimulates worldwide awareness of the environment and encourages political attention and action.
Through WED, the UN Environment Programme is able to personalize environmental issues and enable everyone to realize not only their responsibility, but also their power to become agents for change in support of sustainable and equitable development.
WED is also a day for people from all walks of life to come together to ensure a cleaner, greener and brighter outlook for themselves and future generations.
Everyone counts in this initiative and WED relies on you to make this happen! We call for action – organize a neighborhood clean-up, stop using plastic bags and get your community to do the same, plant a tree or better yet organize a collective tree planting effort, walk to work, start a recycling drive . . . the possibilities are endless.
.
"One man's thrash, another man's treasure"

In conjuction with  WED the Sri Sathya Sai Baba Centre of Kuantan Conducted a community service activity called CCC ( Community Cleaning Club)  at the most dirtiest spot in Kuantan which was Taman Gelora. The Youths and the folks of the centre gathered at the car park nearby around and at 8 am the Town Municipal Council brought their equipments for us to do our activity. They Borrowed us wheelbarrows, brooms and gave us big garbage bags. After that we devided into several groups and we start walking around the beachside collecting all kinds of rubbish like carpets, bottles, condom packs, plastic bags and polystyrene and etc. Once the garbage bag was full, we left it there and continue to collect rubbish with another bag.At about 10 am we took the wheelbarrows and went to collect all the full garbage bags that was left around. We couldn't go on as there were no boundaries  for this rubbish....there was no end so we decided to stop at 10 am. Then all the garbage bags was gathered at one place , so that the municipal council can dispose them. We magane to collect the rubbish up to 30 garbage bags. This CCC program was also held throughout the nation at the same time conducted by the Sri Sathya Sai Baba Organisation of Malaysia. This program was just to show our love for Mother Earth by taking care of her .
WE SHOULD START GOING GREEN !!!LET'S SAVE OUR PLANET!!!
